What is  my skull?

Picture
The skull, which can also be called the brain-case, encloses and protects the brain, the upper jaw (which is fused to the brain-case), and the mandible and maxilla. Your skull is like a helmet for your brain. It protects it from harm and, believe it or not, is a working joint. It is a fused joint, where the bones are fused together. This forms a protective barrier for the inside of your head. Like the Sternum (we'll get to that later) the skull is mostly made up of flat bones.
Pictured are the many parts the skull, and both face and skull are made up of irregulary shaped bones that gradually fuse together during growth. When a baby is born, its head is made up of cartilage.
